Our Marans have been bred to French standards and color of eggs. We prefer the French standards, and all of our marans are of the French standard. We choose the darkest eggs to hatch, so each year our eggs become darker. We are moving on up the egg color chart! To see the egg color of each of the varieties listed click on hatching eggs.
Black Copper Marans
Our black copper marans lay the darkest eggs. We have two coops of black coppers. One pen is from Wade Jeanne's eggs (we bought our eggs straight from Wade). When we got them there was either C1 or C2 written on each egg. We had a great hatch from them!! Dave has bred a Wade roo with Bev hens, and this resulted in some beautiful chicks. The resulting birds are now laying very good eggs, 7+.
Wheaten Marans
Our wheatens are laying a beautiful egg!! Our hens are a cross of Bev Davis hens and a roo that came from Laurie Teasdale. A wheaten sport from the Wade Jeanne line was also crossed into our wheaten line. All of the eggs we choose to hatch are number 8 or 9 eggs.
Golden Cuckoo
We have a nice flock of Golden Cuckoos with feathered shanks. We have four pullets and two nice roos. Dave has hatched some eggs from our hens and we have had great success. The pictures above were taken Dec. 13th, 2009. They are beautiful birds! Although we now have feathers on their legs, we must now work on darkening their egg. We are selling eggs, but keep in mind the egg color will not be as dark as the BC or Wheaten.
Black Tailed Buff
Another work in progress is our Black Tailed Buff. Dave got a sport roo from the Jeanne line and has been working on developing them from this one rooster. Time will tell if he is successful.
During the spring we have hatching eggs for sale. So, if interested in Marans eggs; e-mail us. We will send our darkest, freshest eggs to you in a timely manner.
Below is a picture of the golden cuckoo Marans eggs at their optimal color. This picture was taken from our original golden cuckoos, who are the parents of the feather legged trio we now have. We bought our original goldens from Bill Braden, but have since that time (about 5 years ago) been working on getting feathers on their legs.

Eggs are available for order in the spring, early summer, and fall of each year. E-mail us for prices and availability.
