Our Marans
Black Coppers - Our BC are the result of the original Wade Jeanne eggs label C1 and C2. We paid $100 for a dozen eggs and had a great hatch!! They were beautiful!! We needed to add new blood so we ordered eggs from Laura Teasdale and only one egg hatched. But, lucky for us it was the darkest egg and it turned out to be a Roo which is what we were hoping.
Wheaten - Our wheatens were hatched from eggs we bought from Bev Davis. However, when we hatched Wade Jeanne's eggs we got a sport wheaten that turned out to be a roo. We used him on the Bev Davis wheatens thinking it would darken the egg color of Bev's bloodline. It worked extremely well. Our wheaten eggs are as dark as our BC.
Golden Cuckoos - It took Dave about 5 years to get feathers on the legs of the Goldens that we bought from Bill Braden. We talked with Bev and she suggested we use a white with heavily feathered legs. The first generation we only got one or two that looked golden cuckoo and had feathers on the legs. We kept working on them and Dave has finally got hens that consistanatly produce golden cuckoo chicks.
